Lemn Sissay - Let The Light Pour In

Lemn Sissay - Let The Light Pour In
‘How do you do it?’ said night
‘How do you wake up and shine?’
‘I keep it simple,’ said light
‘One day at a time’
When people ask me what my favourite poem is, this is what I tell them. Because it is my favourite poem. Lemn Sissay is a legend and alongside all his other many and various accolades, I think it’s a credit to him that he didn’t call it a day after he wrote the above and has gone on to write a whole collection of four-line stunners.
For the past decade, Lemn Sissay has composed a short poem as dawn breaks each morning. Life-affirming, witty and full of wonder, these poems chronicle his own battle with the dark and are fuelled by resilience and defiant joy. Let the Light Pour In is a collection of the best of these poems, and a book celebrating this morning practice.
